1948 is only a guess; I've seen another photo of the same machine in use on Main Street, taken in 1948. In any event, Randy's position was on the outside steps to the flat above Jack's Hotdogs on the east side of the street; the intersection with Main Street is in the upper left.

Eagle St. & Main. Wow! This snow lift used to scare me as a young child. I thought it was a dinosaur! Amazing that this was the way we did things in the 50's. This picture, however, along with others remind me of how wonderful old N.A. was. I can even remember that Officer Dempsey would give me a treat, Yut Sokolove would say "Hi", and Bateman's Market was the friendliest place to by fresh meat. What a street! What a town!

I agree...the 50's in North Adams were the BEST! Eagle Street and Bank Street's were amazing and bustling with people. Main Street was the place, whether walking, shopping or just crusing...everybody was out on Thursday night. When I look at the picture, I can't help but, think I lived in the "olden days"!

Me too! I lived on Eagle Street and remember them taking the snow banks with this machine. North Adams was a wonderful town in the 40's and 50's, with all kinds of stores. Everyone was out on Thursday nights to shop or visit with people they would meet. We all cruised Main Street, when we were lucky enought to have a car. Bank and Eagle Streets were always busy with their wonderful little shops. I'm glad I grew up then and there!
