Posted: 02/28/2002 Comments... A familliar sight. I recall when the bathing suits were a bit differnt, the crowds the same back in the 30s' and forward. Ike Berger the lifeguard and the flat bottom rowboats, the shorelign diving pier and the midlake raft with a diving tower, and the soul music in the evenings coming from boats in the center of the lake. There were cottages on Lefvres beach and open Martin beach area. The area from Martins beach to the outlet and beyond had few openings at the time as there was more green areas, trees, brush etc. with a few berry patches. Non the less, same spirit and relaxation only more walking to and from. We lived in one of Lefevers homes on Kemp Ave. just at the top of the hill on the left as you approach the lake. The Damons, Dubreuils, Taylors, Kellys, Dorans, Martins Netherwoods, Johnsons, Davises, Grimes and so many others. The times were slower then and the fields around were full of wild strawbwrries, blueberries, blackberries, wintergreen, chokecherries etc., Life explained in 3 words, "Life goes on". (Not original.)
