Must be the Christmas season. I, too, miss Main St the way it was. I certainly miss all the stores. I HATE malls. Posted: 10/19/2001 Comments... that many cars on main street! must be thursday night, cause the stores stayed open till 9 Posted: 10/20/2001 What was the Season? winter Comments... Posted: 10/20/2001 Comments... it could be any night of the work week because during the month of December all the stores stayed open until 9 every night Posted: 10/22/2001 What was the Year? 1950 What was the Season? Can you name the location? Comments... Posted: 10/22/2001 Comments... Notice how the snow on the street has been packed right down to an icy surface? That was b.s.! (Before salt. lol.) And the plows intentionally would leave some snow on the roads to help keep the chains on the car tires from breaking. Imagine that!!! No front wheel drive then, and very few 4 wheel drive vehicles. How did those "pioneers" survive? LOL. Posted: 10/23/2001 Comments... Compared to today, the decorations are pretty dull but, back then, to me they were WONDERFUL... I am joing the group! I grew up in North Adams in the 40's and 50's and LOVED every minute of it! Even tho the decorations look skimpy compared to 2010, they were beautiful to us! Everyone went down to Main Street on Thursday nights, hopefully Drury or St. Joe was having a Friday night dance and always movies on Saturday..young kids in the afternoon, adults at night. You could always find friends in one of the ice creamsoda shops and when we could drive, we would CRUISE Main Street. I might add, back then you didn't see people in jeans and trashy T shirts...we had respect back then. Posted: 02/18/2010 Comments... My old Italian grandfather would take me to the Richmond Hotel Theater to watch Saturday afternoon cartoons and It seems like just yesterday I had a pink a "virgin mary" cocktail with my parents who were having dinner in the dining room. Years later in the early 50's (when we were about 12) we took ball room dance lessons in the hotel, at the end we had a wonderful dance, all dressed up in ball gowns and suits....what wonderful memories Posted: 02/18/2010 Comments... North Adams was magical back then...something to do all the time! I grew up during the 40's and 50's...what a wonderful time in my life! Posted: 04/27/2011 |
