Comments...
For many years we would celebrate Memorial Day with a parade beginning in front of the old Archer School and ending at the Blackinton cemetery where we would have a ceremony honoring the vets. We would stop along the way and place a wreath in front of the Veterans' War Memorial.Once at the cemetery, we would listen to various dignitaries speak, and an Eagle scout would recite the Gettysburg Address. At the end, TAPS would be played. It was always a very respectful and solemn occasion looked forward to each year by all who lived in Blackinton.
