The Duhamels -- Jeanne and Richard "Duke" -- grew up in Greylock, bringing the wonderful work ethic of the French-Canadians to the store on Ashland Street. I'm sure both would have frequented the Greylock Store when it was operated by Steve Boisvert, father of teachers Charlie and Steve. Two of the finer men to ever live in North Adams!!! What great and rich ethnic heritage the Greylock kids inherited ... leaning to work, love and play together. Greg LaFreniere Posted: 11/16/2004 Comments... Fishlein's was a life-saver to many in the 30s and 40s. They would let customer's run tabs when things were REAL bad. I remember paying them each Sat. for years for a tab our family had. Great business, great people. Posted: 11/17/2004 Comments... I believe the business started out on Bank St. across from the old gas company office. I picked up many a meal there along with fish and salads. Noted for good quality and fair pricing. Boy, what you could buy for $3.00 bucks and less.
